Everybody wants a deal when
renting an apartment . Learn how to get the deal you want
and save money when renting apartment.
Timing is EVERYTHING!
The rental market is very competitive, especially for nice
affordable apartments. You should be ready to make
decisions quickly and be flexible by a week or two with
your plans. Start your search no earlier than four to six
weeks before your desired move-in date since tenants are
not required to give landlords more than 30 days’ notice of
their move-out dates. Leave yourself enough time to look at
several apartments in order to know the market. When you
are rushed to find an apartment it can cost you money and
cause you stress.
Search within your budget
Before you begin your apartment search figure out what you
can afford for rent per month. Monthly rents will vary
depending on several factors; the most important of which
is location, followed by apartment size and then amenities.
* Decide if You Are Willing to Share an Apartment –
You can cut costs by sharing an apartment. Make sure you
are compatible with your roomate.
* Consider Where You Can Afford to Live -
Rents in large cities are usually higher than outlying
areas. Waterfront or special views cost more.
* Determine What Size Apartment Fits Your Budget and What
Amenities You Can Do Without -
Squeezing into a smaller apartment than your ideal and a
willingness to accept some commonly perceived flaws such as
street noise or no air conditioning may save you some
money.
* Use the internet to help search out a deal and save time
and money.
Don't be afraid to Negotiate Rent
Don't be afraid to ask for a reduced rent for the first
month or up to a year. A vacant apartment makes no money
for landlord. Landlords are very willing to negotiate in
order to fill a vacant apartment. Now is great time to ask
for lower rent.
Complete a Rental Application and Sign a Lease
You will be asked to complete a rental application by your
prospective landlord. Landlords want to see evidence of
steady income and good credit. Bring a recent paystub. You
will be required to pay upfront a security deposit normally
equal to a monthly rental fee in additon to the first
month's rent when signing a rentla lease. Read the lease
carefully.
